Difference Between Aldehydes And Ketones

an aldehyde is a compound consisting of a carbonyl center with the carbon atom also bonded to hydrogen and to any generic alkyl or side chain R group containing a functional group with the structure −CHO. whereas Ketones contain a carbonyl group containing a functional group with the structure R₂C=O where R can be a variety of carbon-containing substituents. the main Difference Between Aldehydes And Ketones is that aldehyde always occurs at the end of the carbon chain. they are usually found in volatile compounds. on the other hand, ketones always occur in the middle of the carbon chain. they are usually found in sugars.

Aldehydes Ketones
Aldehydes are present in the form of R-CHO. Ketones are present in the form of R-CO-R’.
they are found in Volatile compounds. they are found in Sugars.

Oxidation occurs in Aldehydes. oxidation also occurs in Ketones.
Aldehydes are more reactive than ketones. they are less reactive as compared to aldehydes.
the suffix -al is used for them. the suffix -one is used for them.

What are Aldehydes?

The word Aldehyde is coined by Justus von Liebig. it is an abbreviation of the Latin word alcohol dehydrogenates – dehydrogenated alcohol. the aldehydes belong to the class of organic compounds that contain an aldehyde group (-CHO) at the end of the chain. these substances have given IUPAC classification as type R-CHO. this formula shows that one hydrogen atom is bonded with the carbonyl group and one R Group.

aldehydes are commonly used in the perfume industry. the persons who work in this industry can easily distinguish between the different aldehydes used in particular perfume. vanilla, rose, orange, peach, and many others are commonly used aldehydes used in this industry. they contribute to the world as a pleasant composition.

What are Ketones?

The word ketone comes from an old German word Aketon (acetone). Ketones are those substances that are made with a combination of oxygen, hydrogen, and hydrocarbon atoms. Ketones are classified into many types such as ubiquinone etc. the ubiquinone helps the heart to function well.

they contain many substances like fructose, progesterone, cortisone, tetracycline, camphor, natural dyes, etc. they are also synthesized in our liver cells. they are also present in our blood and urine that is excreted in a small amount on daily basis. the 70% amount falls on weak.
