Difference Between CNG and LPG

CNG is a compressed natural gas and gaseous form of petroleum that is separated during the distillation process. it is colorless, tasteless, and nontoxic made up of 93.05% methane, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, propane, and traces of ethane. while LPG is a liquified form of petroleum gases released during the extraction of crude oil during the refining process. the basic difference between CNG and LPG is that CNG is compressed natural gas domestically available, economical, clean-burning, and an alternative source for vehicles. CNG is mainly methane compressed at a pressure of 200 to 248 bars. on the other hand, LPG is a hydrocarbon fuel lighter than petroleum that can be used as an automotive fuel. LPG is a mixture of propane and butane liquified at 15° C and a pressure of 7.5 bar. CNG is cleaner and cheaper while LPG has a higher calorific value.

CNG is primarily used for fuel purposes in automobiles. the LPG is primarily used for cooking and heating purposes at home. It is also equally important in many fields like agriculture, and industrial usage.
methane is used as a primary component in CNG. butane and propane are used as primary components in LPG.
usually, it is compressed with LPG hence produces a lower quantity of greenhouse gases. it is pure, hence can produce a large amount of carbon dioxide gases.
this gas can disperse easily in the ear hence safer to use from other gases. it can not disperse in the air rapidly so considered highly flammable and much heavier than air.
CNG is extracted from different wells of oil, coil, and bed methane as a primary source. it is also obtained from natural gas wells. LPG is primarily extracted from the process of extracting natural gas reservoirs.
CNG releases less amount of greenhouse effect that is not much affected the environment. it releases CO2 that is dangerous for the greenhouse effect. to overcome this situation, it is compressed with gasoline.

CNG

It stands for compressed natural gas. Methane gas is the main component that comprises which can produce engine power after when air is mixed with it and fed into an engine’s combustion chamber. It can be used as a substitute for petrol, diesel and propane or LPG. It produces fewer undesirable gases in comparison to patrol, diesel and LPG and is effective to control air pollution. CNG is the best environmental friendly gas as compared to other fuel products. It is safer than its other substitutes in the case of the spill as it is lighter than air and disperses quickly when used and released. It is found over oil deposits. We can produce it from landfills and wastewater treatment plants. CNG is made by compressing natural gas to less than one per cent of its standard atmospheric pressures.

LPG

It stands for liquefied petroleum gas. LPG is primarily used for cooking and heating purposes at home. It is also equally important in many fields like agriculture, and industrial usage. butane and propane are used as primary components in LPG. LPG refers to a group of flammable hydrocarbon gasses like propane, butane, isobutane, etc. propane, butane, isobutane, etc. are liquefied by pressurization and are commonly used as fuel. LPG is odorless, colorless, and heavier than air. LPG allows producing more heat in a short life because it has high heating or caloric value. LPG is extracted from natural gas and crude oil by refining.

Uses of LPG

LPG has many industrial and domestic. its main uses are:

  • Cooking
  • Use for geysers to produce Hot Water
  • Heating
  • Motor Fuel
  • Electricity
