Difference Between Crystalline and Amorphous

Crystalline solids have definite characteristics patterns and shapes. on the other hand, the amorphous solids have irregular shapes and patterns. the basic Difference Between Crystalline and Amorphous is that crystalline solids have long-range order of regular pattern of arrangement of constituents particles. they have sharp melting points. they are anisotropic in nature. while amorphous solids have a short-range pattern of arrangement of constituents particles. they do not have sharp melting points. amorphous solids are isotropic in nature.

Difference Between Crystalline and Amorphous in Tabular Form

A crystalline is a form of solids in which atoms are arranged in a regular three dimensions. Amorphous also is a form of solids in which atoms are not necessarily arranged in regular three-dimension arrangements.

Potassium nitrate, copper are common examples of crystalline solids. Cellophane, polyvinyl chloride are common examples of Amorphous solids.
they tend to give a clean surface when we cut them with a knife. they tend to give an unclean, irregular surface when we cut their edges with a knife.
they have some specified heat of fusion. they do not have any specified heat of fusion.

Crystalline Solids

The Particles are arranged in a three-dimensional manner are called crystalline solids. They have distinctive internal structures that in turn lead to distinctive flat surfaces or faces. The faces intersect at different angles that are characteristic of the substance.

They have equal intermolecular forces between them. Crystalline solids have a well-defined melting point and are known as anisotropic. Crystalline solids are used in the making of beautiful jewelry, cutting glass, etc. Diamond and benzoic acid etc are examples of crystalline solids.

Amorphous Solids

The particles that are arranged irregularly and being shapeless are called amorphous solids. It is a solid that lacks an ordered internal structure. E.g. include rubber, plastic, and gels. etc are some amorphous solids. Glass is an important amorphous solid which is made by cooling a mixture of materials.

They do not have equal intermolecular forces between them. Amorphous solids are also known to be supercooled liquids and do not possess a defined geometric shape. Amorphous solids are isotropic in nature. Glass, rubber, and plastics are some examples of amorphous solids.
