Difference Between Enantiomers And Diastereomers

enantiomer is one of two stereoisomers that are mirror images of each other that are non-superposable, as one’s left and right hands are mirror images of each other that cannot appear identical simply by the reorientation. on the other hand, Diastereomers are a type of stereoisomer that are non-mirror image non-identical stereoisomers. they occur when two stereoisomers of a compound have different configurations at one or more of the equivalent stereocenters and are not mirror images of each other. the main difference Between Enantiomers And Diastereomers is that Enantiomers are stereoisomers that are non-superimposable mirror images and they are always in the form of pairs. they have identical physical properties except to rotate planer-polarization light. whereas Diastereomers are stereoisomers that are non-superimposable and they do not mirror images. Diastereomers have distinct physical properties.

What are Enantiomers?

Enantiomers are derived from the Greek language that has a meaning of pair of stereoisomers. they are mirror reflections of each other. the right and left palms are two enantiomers having the same structure and different spatial orientations. they cannot combine in space.

they formed only due to the presence of molecules in chiral but the properties do not coincide in the space with mirror images.

What are Diastereomers?

diastereoisomers are also derived from the Greek language. they are spatial isomers with several asymmetric centers. in these spatial isomers, asymmetric atoms are configured coincidently and are opposite parts. If there are several chiral atoms in the compound, the formula 2n will give us the number of stereoisomers. where n represents the number of chiral centers. These stereoisomers form 2n-1 diastereomeric pairs of enantiomers.
