people are often confused regarding Fat And Cholesterol but they are totally different terms. Cholesterol is a lipid that cannot be exercised off, sweated out, or burned for energy. but, fats are oily substances extracted from animal bodies. they are deposited as a layer under their skins. they are natural esters of glycerol and various fatty acids. the basic difference between Fat And Cholesterol is that Cholesterol is found in meat, chicken, fish, eggs, organ meats, and high-fat dairy products while fat is found only under the skins of various animals.

Difference Between Fat And Cholesterol in tabular Form

Fat Cholesterol
A substance that occurs naturally in animal bodies, when deposited as a layer under certain organs or skin. A component of the cell membrane and a sterol compound typically found in body tissues functions as synthetic od steroid membrane.
The main source is diet. They are synthesized from the liver.
Energy is produced in calories. It does not produce energy in calories.
These are macronutrients molecules. Cholesterols perform vital roles in the body.
Fats are found in animals, vegetable oils, seafood, poultry. Examples are: butter, cream, vegetable shortening, and lard Cholesterol is found in animals as a dietary.
Fats serve as an energy source. Cholesterol serves as a precursor for the synthesis of steroid hormones in cell membranes.

Fats Vs. Cholesterol – Overview

These are two different types of lipids i.e. fats and cholesterol that are insoluble in water and are organic compounds. Fats and cholesterol are found in blood and food and they contain separate mechanisms and some common functions. Fats give nutrients and calories to our bodies. Fats and cholesterol can be produced by diet and synthesize especially in the liver. Dietary fats increase LDL cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is a significant element in the cell membranes of animal cells. There are two types of cholesterol i.e. HDL and LDL.

Fats

Fats are lipids consisting of triesters of glycerol and fatty acids or triglycerides. Fats are organic compounds that contain carbon and hydrogen atoms generally soluble in organic solvents and largely insoluble in water. Fats serve as an energy source. Fats are solid at room temperature. It contains three macronutrients with the others being protein and carbohydrates. Butter, cream, vegetable shortening, ghee, and lard are examples of fats. Triglycerides, phospholipids, and cholesterol are pure organic compounds and these compounds are fats. A triglyceride molecule is the main structure of the fat. They are essential to the human diet along with protein and carbohydrates. There are two types of fats:

  • Saturated fats
  • Unsaturated fats

Saturated fats do not have a double bond between the carbons in the fatty acid chains. Although, They contain one or more double bonds between the carbon atoms in the chains. Polyunsaturated fat is that which molecule contains multiple double bonds.

Cis fats or Trans fats are generally known as unsaturated fats. These are geometric isomers of one another. In an unsaturated cis-fat, the hydrogenation breaks double bonds making a saturated trans fat.

Cholesterols

Cholesterol is produced by the body for the cells and membrane formations around the cell. Cholesterol is a waxy, chemical that is generated by the liver present in cheese, eggs, and butter. Lipoprotein molecules are responsible to transport this compound via the blood. Cholesterols exist in all our cells and is an essential part of our cell membranes, the body generates all cholesterol which we need.

Causes of HDL

  • Lack of daily physical activities.
  • Obesity
  • Diet with high red meat content.

Cholesterol helps in sex hormone formation, and also helps in the production of bile salts that helps in digesting foods. The excess amount of cholesterol is dangerous for your heart healthy and increases cardiovascular diseases
