the two mineral contents i.e. calcium and magnesium are used to determine the hardness of the water. if less than 17 parts per million are present in water it is called soft water while having 120 to 180 parts per million is referred to hard water. the basic difference Difference Between Hard Water And Soft Water is that hard water does not give lather with soap freely due to the presence of magnesium and calcium salts while soft water gives leather with soap freely. it does not have calcium and magnesium salts.
Difference Between Hard Water And Soft Water in Tabular Form
|Hard Water||Soft Water|
|Hard water is water with naturally present minerals like magnesium and calcium with a detectable amount.||Soft water is left with only cations and that is sodium. Soft water has a salty taste.|
|rich in minerals||Contains very few minerals|
|not so effective||easily effective|
|can leave a feeling of residue on your hands, skin, and hair upon washing||more gentle on your body and your home|
|By using hard water, your hair and skin may feel more dry and brittle||It can combat the dryness and stickiness caused by cold weather|
|It gives an insoluble curd with soap||Soft Water gives lather with soap|
|cannot be used as drinking water||can be used as drinking water|
water play an important role in our life. hence, it is necessary to treat with extensive attention to the physical and chemical characteristics of water. to judge the degree of hardness and stiffness is carried through indicators. the indicators determine the degree of concentration of any salt or mineral.
hard water is very harmful to drink in a large quantity which causes the deposition of salts into our kidneys and joints. but, there are some benefits too. for example, it eradicates the development of cardiovascular disease and hypertension. the liquid form is also useful for many household purposes like washing machines, dishwashers, coffee makers, kettles, and boilers.
on the other hand, soft water is very useful and beneficial for human beings. the only problem is that it causes corrosion. it often contains a little number of mineral salts. but human bodies need a large number of vitamins except for salts.
