Difference Between Metallic and Non-metallic Minerals

the minerals which contain one or more metallic elements are called metallic minerals. these minerals occur in rare, naturally formed concentrations. while the minerals which do not contain any metal substances are non-metallic minerals. the basic Difference Between Metallic and Non-metallic Minerals is that metallic minerals are malleable and ductile and these minerals are generally associated with igneous and metamorphic rocks. metallic minerals show luster. on the other hand, non-metallic minerals are not malleable and non-ductile and these minerals are associated with sedimentary rocks.

What are Metallic Minerals?

The minerals in which metal elements are present in raw form are called metallic minerals. By extraction of other minerals, these minerals are obtained. Metals also include in these types of minerals. These are usually found in metamorphic rock formations and igneous.

Metallic minerals are highly valuable as they provide metals in pure form. Metallic minerals have a high ability of ductility and malleability. These minerals are hard and contain shiny surfaces, some of them are used as gems in jewelry.

These minerals have also applications in various industries for different purposes, e.g. silicon, which is obtained from quartz, is extensively used in the computer industry; aluminum which is obtained from bauxite is used in the automobile and bottling industry. Iron ore, bauxite, hematite, etc. are examples of metallic minerals.

What are Nonmetallic Minerals?

These are the minerals that do not contain metals. They are usually found in sedimentary rocks and embedded in the form of young fold mountains. These minerals have a variety of applications in various industries to produce many products i.e. mica is in electrical factories, limestone is used in the cement industry.

For the production of fertilizers and manufacturing of refractories, they are also used. These minerals are found generally in sedimentary rocks that are formed by the aggregation of different materials like minerals, remains of organisms, rock particles, etc. Limestone, mica, coal, gypsum, dolomite, phosphate, salt, manganese, granite, etc. are examples of nonmetallic minerals.
