Difference Between Thermoplastic and Thermosetting Plastic

A thermoplastic is a plastic polymer material that becomes pliable at a certain elevated temperature and solidifies upon cooling. whereas thermosetting plastic is a polymer that is obtained by viscous liquid prepolymer. The basic Difference Between Thermoplastic and Thermosetting Plastic is that thermoplastic becomes soft on heating and can be reshaped or reused. it is soluble in organic compounds. E.g. polyvinyl chloride (PVC). on the other hand, Thermosetting Plastic does not become softer on heating. it is hard and strong plastic. e.g. polyesters etc. in tabular Form

Thermoplastic is synthesized by the process of addition polymerization. Thermosetting plastic is synthesized by the process of condensation polymerization.
these plastics are not fireproof. these plastics are fireproof.
it is also known for injection molding, thermoforming process, blow molding, and rotational molding. it is also known or proceeded by reaction injection molding and compression molding.
effects may occur by adding certain solvents. remains unaffected by adding any solvent.
the secondary bonds are present between molecular chains in the process of Thermoplastics. in thermosetting plastics, primary bonds instead of secondary bonds are present between molecular chains. these bonds are present with the help of strong cross-links.
they are soft and very flexible. they are very hard and brittle.
their melting points are low along with the low tensile strength. their melting points are high along with the high tensile strength.
can be reused. cannot be reused.
their molecular weight is very low than thermosetting plastic. their molecular weight is high than thermoplastic.
can be softened again and again. cannot be re-softened once they hard.
